Open communication is an essential first step.
We LOVE working with teens and their families to create better connections, communication, insight, and understanding of their concerns.
The struggles teens face today are varied, but a common theme that runs through our work addresses concerns around anxiety, high stress around school, family life, achievement, friendships, depression, and self-harm.
Being a teen is hard, and being a parent of a teen is just as hard. We help bridge the disconnect that can often escalate and divide parents and teens during their high school years.
Parents’ and teens’ communication types often collide, creating an agitated home environment. We work with parents and teens to build skills to foster a better home environment.
Teens must learn to face challenges.
Teen anxiety and depression have escalated significantly in the past few years. This escalation puts teens in a very vulnerable position without access to help much of the time.
Parents often become bewildered at how to help. Our mission is to help teens gain insight into their struggles, give them tools to work through them, and support them as they try out new ways of being in relationship with their thoughts that can result in disabling outcomes.
Once our teens gain more insight into where their thoughts are coming from, and the power they have within themselves to affect how they feel, they become more open to trying new ways of interacting in their environments.
We coach our teens around building assertiveness skills, being aware of “all-or-nothing” thinking, practicing how to address problems and concerns tactfully, and realizing our body language and tone impact what we say.
High school to college is a significant transition.
When our teens graduate from high school and head towards their next phase of life, we switch to a coaching model to help support them as they go to college and learn to become fully independent.
We coach teens with ADHD and executive function struggles, help them create workable schedules in college to maintain a balance of fun and responsibility, help set daily self-care goals, and work through anxious thinking and behavior patterns that might keep them stuck in their dorm room, avoiding class, or not turning in assignments.
In other words, we guide the teens we work with to become more aware of how their thinking and interpretation of the world affect their feelings and choices. We help them become the best version of themselves and to develop strategies and tools to work through stresses and challenges.
